Officer Stress Week 3 Dis 2 (Mar)
External in nature that causes both physical and emotional strain upon the body. The late Hans Selye, who is known as “the father of stress research,” defined stress as a nonspecific response of a body to demands placed on it.
To help officers deal with stress and its effects, a comprehensive wellness program is needed that should include five elements: (1) physical fitness, (2) stress management, (3) psychological and mental health, (4) nutrition and dietary-related behaviors, and (5) alcohol/chemical dependency.
Police agencies need a comprehensive wellness program to assist officers in coping with stress, but if that fails or is absent, an employee assistance program (EAP) should be available to help officers to cope with alcohol and substance abuse, psychological problems such as depression, or family management problems.
Read the Employee Assistance Program – The Police Notebook and address the following:

Why has the University of Oklahoma Police Department established an EAP, and how does the program work?
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides professional and confidential help to faculty, staff, and their family members who are facing challenges. The purpose of the EAP is to help the employee find the best resources to deal with his or her particular problem. The EAP, in cooperation with the employee, does an assessment about the nature of the problem and the best avenue for help (The University of Oklahoma Human Resources, 2015).
What portions of the EAP presented did you find particularly helpful? Why?
What I find most helpful in regarding the EAP is the fact that it is available to all household members and dependents. Personally, I believe that this is great because most times it may take a wife or husband, son or daughter, aunt or uncle, to reach out to these sources for help when that individual officer is in denial that he or she may have a problem. Rather its stress, drug or alcohol problems, anger issues, depression, etc. Sometimes it take significant other, particularly a family member, to step in and get the help they needed that would assist their family. The first step in problem resolution is admitting that there is a problem and being willing to get help.
What portions should be expanded? Why?
I happen to notice that this EAP includes up to 3 counseling sessions for officers and their eligible dependents or household members at no cost. However, I don’t believe having just 3 sessions will be enough to fix the problem. Therefore, this portion of the Employee-Assistance- Program should be expanded. The expansion of sessions will allow officers and their families to feel as if they are really getting the help that they need. I would suggest it be broken into three phases over the course of maybe six sessions; a 2 session per phase type thing. The first phase phase would introduce people involve and the issue, second phase would be the options to resolution phase, and the final phase could be like a follow up to that resolution. Families would benefit more with expanded sessions allowing them to voice their concerns and hash out all problems that not only effects the officer but also his or her love ones.
In your opinion, do you think either a comprehensive wellness program or an EAP helps with officer stress? Why or why not?
Personally, I think for some it does help and for others no. I say that because some peoples pride get in their way and they feel as if they don’t need anyone else stepping into their business and or family business. As I mentioned before, some people wont admit that they have a problem or a problem with stress and may need other alternatives to reach their happiness. For others who seek help and are willing to cooperate with the program and all that it offers then yes, it will work.

Final Project Milestone Two: Project Charter and Stakeholder Management Plan
You correctly used the template, covered all the areas required, used descriptions that were accurate, and kept it brief enough to be useful. To improve on this and other milestones in the future you must incorporate concepts from the PMBOK Guide. It is not enough to imply or assume the concept or principle applies — you must explain why and support your reasoning using terminology and principles drawn from PMBOK Guide. Also, as a reminder, for quotes and paraphrases of material — you must use citations and quotes to credit sources that provided information and content. See the rubric for score details and additional feedback.
Final Project Milestone Three: Project Scope Management Plan
The Scope Statement needs more detail and depth. You are missing citations and references that support your planning. In review: The scope statement should be brief, clear, and accurate in placing the boundaries of what is and what is not part of the project. The inclusion of the high-level Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) helps define what the project is intended to accomplish. To avoid unintended consequences of scope creep – you must have a process and procedure in place to receive, review, and approve/disapprove valid changes to the scope.
Final Project Milestone Four: Project Schedule Management Plan
This was too brief to fully introduce and explain clearly the schedule management approach. You must expand your list of activities. The project consists of level one (major) tasks. Each of the level one tasks has subordinate tasks and activities which must be completed to support the level one task. For example, WBS 1.2, Implementation — should have multiple subordinate tasks that are completed in order to achieve full implementation. List those. Then, your activity list, network diagram, and critical path should all be in alignment / agreement. See the rubric for score details along with additional comments.
Final Project Milestone Five: Project Cost Management Plan and Project Procurement Plan
the structure is looking good and you are following the template well. You are on the edge of being too brief and in some areas missing the necessary details explaining your plan and intent. There are many opportunities for you to introduce the PMBOK processes and procedures as well as describe your planning. Include references and citations using the APA format. See the rubric for score details along with additional specific feedback.
Final Project Milestone Six: Project Human Resource Management Plan and Project Communications Management Plan
This is missing too much. It needs additional work with references and citations before inclusion into your final project. It is a too brief in the descriptive sections and needs more narrative and references to processes described in the PMBOK Guide. As you develop your plan, keep in mind that part of your objective is to explain to stakeholders what actions you will take to achieve a successful project based on PMBOK Guide concepts and processes. See the rubric for score details along with additional comments.
