Step 2: INDIVIDUAL RESEARCH & WRITING

For this step, you will–individually–research your group’s approved scenario,(Is it ethically permissible for women to participate in combat? why or why not?) clarify your thoughts, then articulate and defend your position by completing the “Ethical Scenario Paper.”

Before reaching a personal conclusion on the matter, research the issue thoroughly, give all sides a fair hearing, identify what you believe are the strongest arguments for two different perspectives, and discern how different worldview commitments affect one’s decision. Then, build your case, using the best evidence and strongest arguments. Your research should include course textbooks and materials, the Bible, books, and articles (see suggestions below).

“Ethical Scenario Paper” Assignment Description: write a 4-page (double spaced) essay that outlines the strongest arguments for two sides of the issue that your group chose for the group project. Identify the worldview commitments that might lead to each conclusion, and explain why. Demonstrate the connections between worldview commitments and ethical choices. Finally, state and support your own position, using the best evidence and strongest arguments. Use and cite resources sufficiently.
