Film reviews are a distinctive genre, so if you don’t know what a good film review looks like, go on line and find some reviews of a Shakespeare film other than the one you’re reviewing, or find a review of a live performance of a Shakespeare play. Use these reviews as a model. A film review must not merely describe a film; it must also be analytical and evaluative. What is distinctive in your film? How does it involve an interpretation of the play? How does the film shape your perceptions of the play? What themes or issues are foregrounded? Does it bring out new dimensions? Does it distort the play? How effective is the film at communicating themes, characters, narrative? All this can be achieved only with a good number of specific examples.
