the department of homeland security vs terrorists
After the September 11, 2001 attacks, the US government established the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). We have been focusing on anti-terrorism efforts in this course but the DHS is responsible for other areas related to homeland security. In addition to the agencies of the DHS, there are other organizations tasked with gathering intelligence and conducting investigations. Briefly describe the agencies that are responsible for:
- Border security
- Shoreline and waterway security
- Intelligence gathering outside the United States
How do the efforts of these organizations help in protecting the country against terrorism?
Why do you think it is difficult to form effective partnerships between federal agencies and local law enforcement when it comes to combating threats to homeland security? Are JTTFs effective?
While we have been focusing on terrorism, there are other threats to homeland security that must be addressed. Describe a nonterrorism threat that the DHS or other agencies try to prevent.
