On this day, the hospital administration had planned a set of activities. The activities were a result of mass cases of malaria infection. The people within the neighborhood of the hospital that I have been practicing nursing had been registering a significant prevalence of malaria infection. As a result, the hospital administration planned field activities for a section of nurses to educate citizens on the methods of malaria prevention (Nejati, Moosa-Kazemi, Saghafipour, & Soofi, 2018). Among the 50 nurses serving at the hospital, a group of 16 nurses was chosen to take part in the field activities whereas the remaining group required to take care of patients at the hospital. I was selected among the 16 nurses. We were then divided into groups of four with each group assigned a locality. The task was to perform door to door mission of education. We had a manual which we followed for standardization of tasks.

The first step we took was to enlighten each household that malaria was caused by bites from female anopheles’ mosquito. After which we helped the households identify the risks that come with malaria infection among them death. We encouraged people to stay in well-screened areas at night and avoid keeping stagnant areas within the neighborhood along with avoiding waste dumps. We encouraged the use of bed nets that are fitted with insecticides as a method of keeping away mosquitos (Stoney, et al, 2016). We also encouraged the use of mosquito repellant to keep away mosquitos. By the end of the day, all groups cumulatively had visited at least two hundred households which were a big success. This event enhanced knowledge on malaria prevalence. Besides, it was an event that had never happened again in my practice.
