“This week, we will share our tutoring experiences as we work on essay #2.

Please create an original post that is ONE solid paragraph, with a clear topic sentence, at least three body sentences, and one or two concluding sentences. Remember that we are practicing paragraph structure as much as we can in this class!

The prompt for the paragraph is: Tell us about the type of tutoring you choose to do. What did you do that type of tutoring? Was it helpful? Why or why not? Would you recommend this tutoring to others, why or why not? Can you recommend any strategies to other students for benefiting from the tutoring?

Continue to follow the Class Talk guidelines that were posted in week 1. To earn full points, you must reply to four other students, writing at least three-sentence replies (your replies don’t need to be complete paragraphs). Also be sure to proofread your work for typos, grammar, and spelling. ”

“The prompt for the paragraph is: Tell us about the type of tutoring you choose to do. What did you do that typeo of tutoring? Was it helpful? Why or why not? Would you recommend this tutoring to others, why or why not? Can you recommend any strategies to other students for benefiting from the tutoring?

I screen shotted of my experiences, after I select the tutor I will upload it.

Here is two examples:

1. “The tutoring I decided to try out was Smarthinking. I chose to do this tutoring because I have never tried it before and was curious to see what it was like compared to in person tutoring. I also thought it would be a great idea to try something new. I usually go in person for tutoring because I find it way more helpful and easier to interact. Going to tutoring face to face always gave me a better understanding of my work and how I can make improvements. My overall experience with Smarthinking was not what I expected, I found that Smarthinking did not give me the same experience that I received in person. I thought the tutors were very helpful for my session, but it felt like it was quite a rush. I personally like taking time and making sure I understand what the tutors are trying to explain. The tutors had a certain time limit in which they could help, so I was left not feeling much confident about my essay and I felt like I did not get a better understanding of what the tutor was trying to explain to me. However, I would still recommend others to try it out because each one of us learn differently and it’s great to see which tutoring we like or fit with the best.”

2. I select a type of online tutoring called smart thinking. Since I take five courses this quarter, therefore online tutoring is the optimal option for me. While awaiting the revision of my essay, I can complete other assignments to save up extra time. For this essay, I requested help with my sentence structure and wordiness as I discover these two weaknesses in most of my essays. Thanks to all the pieces of advice the tutor gives, I revise some sentences which disrupt the flow to make my essay looks more straightforward, comprehensible, and coherent. Some errors which I don’t notice; however, the tutor observes, and even finds other mistakes that I do not realize it at first. Thus, I highly recommend this type of tutoring for people who want clear, detailed feedbacks, meanwhile not having adequate time for tutoring in person. This tutoring is radically useful because the tutor not only gives thorough general feedbacks of whole essays but he or she also specifically points out those weaknesses that I requested. Moreover, the tutor will give specific examples for every piece of advice that they made to help me understand how to revise it in the right way, and direction. Lastly, I suggest peers who want to choose this kind of tutoring submit their draft of the essay two or three days before the deadline. Due to the high demand for tutoring, it sometimes takes the tutor one or two days to respond to you. It is a useful strategy if you want to receive the feedback from the tutor before you submit, and having sufficient time to rewrite or rephrase errors in your final draft. “

Also, you should write four reflections on others experiences.

For four reflection,

Write one paragraph for each reflection, there are four reflection in total

1. Each post MUST BE three or more sentences. This includes your posts in response to other student posts.

2. Each post must be detailed. It is not enough to simply write, “I agree with you” or “I like your idea.” You must say WHY you agree or like someone’s ideas.

3. Write in complete, standard English sentences. Do not “text.” Poorly written posts will not be considered for a grade.

4. If you disagree with someone’s post, politely do so. Explain why you disagree with facts and details.

5. If you agree with someone, build on the ideas.

6. You can reply to someone who had replied to your original post; this will count as another of your required postings for the assignment.

7. Be kind, respectful, and curious toward other students.

8. The instructor reserves the right to delete any post that is offensive, intolerant, or not sufficiently academic for a college-level course.

Please reapply these four reflection:

1. Yu Tsen Lin: “The tutoring I decided to try out was Smarthinking. I chose to do this tutoring because I have never tried it before and was curious to see what it was like compared to in person tutoring. I also thought it would be a great idea to try something new. However, I would still recommend others to try it out because each one of us learn differently and it’s great to see which tutoring we like or fit with the best.”

here is an example of its reflection:

“Hi Yu,

Thank you for sharing. I also found that online tutoring can save up more time than appointing a tutor in person. Simultaneously, the effectiveness of online tutoring is also astonishing. I prefer online tutoring over face-to-face tutor since I think these two lead to the same results, but online tutoring is more efficient. I have not use smart thinking yet; however, it is quite a long waiting time for me to have my essay to be revised. I would like to try it out next time, and thank you for the reminder for the waiting time.”

2. Krissha Sy Go:”The type of tutoring I chose for my essay is NetTutor. The live tutor in NetTutor is very responsive, as I only waited for 5 minutes for them to respond to me. I have never used tutoring online, so I was a little overwhelmed by it. I uploaded my essay to the site, and he quickly gave me feedback on my work. The tutor taught me not to use a lot of hyphens, find more resources on my in-text citation, avoid using rhetorical questions, and avoid using casual language, and more. The tutor that I encountered is very patient, which is why I recommend NetTutor as an option to try. The tutor that I talked to was very kind and willing to check my draft. NetTutor tells the student to avoid using a lot of grammatical errors such as adverbs and passive voice and teach them what the student should do. Lastly, based on my experience, I observed they take their work seriously as they check my work. Although I am not used to having an online tutor to check my essay because of the lack of responses; however, I appreciated their kindness in helping me because before handing it back to me, they made sure to recheck it. NetTutor is a big help to my essay.”

here is an example of its reflection:

“Hi Krissha,

Thank you for sharing your experience with Net Tutor. I have never tried this specific tutoring yet and reading your reflection made me more interested in trying it one day. I never used online tutoring because I often preferred in person tutoring more helpful, so I also felt overwhelmed. I was glad to hear the amount of help you got from this tutoring experience. I am looking forward to trying out Net Tutor on future essays.”

3. Zekai Wu:”During the mid-term weekend, I successfully completed my eassy, and then I considered that because my home was a little far from school, I chose Net tutor. This is my first time using Net tutor, it is really very convenient, he is at the bottom of the canvas home page. When you go in, he is actually not only the guide to help with thesis writing, it is a comprehensive tutoring, including mathematics, biology, geography, physics, English and many other types. I recommend it to students who are far from the school or have many courses, because he only needs to upload your file at home and tell your tutor to wait for their feedback. The only disadvantage is that it takes a little longer. And if you want a more comprehensive feedback, I think we still need to find a tutor in the school, they will give more comprehensive guidance.”

4. Limi Callista Tanamal:”Given the list of tutors, the type of tutoring I chose for my essay is the Net Tutor. I chose to do this tutoring because I’ve never tried it before and was curious about it. I also thought it would be more beneficial for me since I’m mostly taking online classes this quarter. My experience with Net Tutor was great. They provide immediate assistance with only 7-10 minutes of waiting time. The tutor was very helpful, we had a live chat together. For this essay, I requested help from my tutor with improving my sentence structure, comma usage, and using strong vocabulary as I tend to get feedback on this issue when writing a paragraph or an essay. I highly recommend others in trying out Net Tutors, as it gives the opportunity for people to access tutoring at their convenience. Overall, this type of tutoring helps in providing an individualized, structured, and systematic learning experience. Tutors help provide examples as well as feedbacks thus, students get the opportunity to experience one- on- one online tutoring through Net Tutor’s website. Net Tutors ultimately help improves my essay.”
